Standburn
Falkirk
A 19th- Century mining village in the district of Falkirk, situated on the B825 road and 1 mile southwest of the Bowhouse Roundabout and 3 mile from junction 4 on the M9 Motorway.
The village of Standburn is a one street village, just over a half-mile long. In the village there is a primary school, with a community wing attached. They have no shop, as this closed a number of years ago and in its place houses have been built.
A park has been developed by the residents where the old mine used to be, and a lot of work has been carried out by the forestry commission.
Convenor James Anderson, retired, of Falkirk District first opened the park in 1995 and the park is maintained by the residents, who hold monthly meetings in the community wing of the school.
The winter of 2000/01 was the worst winter for over 20yrs. Standburn was snowed in, 6ft drifts blocked the road leading from the Bowhouse roundabout, and most villages in the Braes area were in the same predicament.
The following photographs may bring back memories to those who know the village.
The photographs can be saved and printed.
